I think it's fitting that Lady Gaga put a song out about hair considering hers is always changing The mother and father fighting about their daughter's clothes shows how they very much believe that appearance is connected to identity. If their daughter is dressed cool and acting like a hot shot, then they may believe that their daughter's going to be wild rather than disciplined. The fact that her mother cuts her hair at night suggests that she is trying to have some control over her daughter.
I find it interesting that she says "I am my hair." This contrasts sharply with India Arie's "I am not my hair." Clearly, different people have different beliefs about how significant hair is to their identity.
